Big News!

It has been a very busy spring – and the rest of the year is about to be even busier!  My husband and I are expecting our second child (a son!) in late October, and this pregnancy is proving to be very challenging. The long days of photographing back to back mini-sessions will come to an end next weekend after the Celebrating Motherhood session in Raleigh.  I will still be booking a limited number of individual sessions through the summer.  I anticipate being on maternity leave September through January.

Over the next few days I’ll (finally) catch up on all happy faces from this spring!

To Honor Griffin | Free Pet Photos

My Griffin was the the smartest cat I ever met. He was also spring loaded — able to clear hurdles over 5 feet high. My sweet boy and I were together for nearly 12 years. He died earlier this week due to a sudden illness.  To honor Griffin, I will be offering free pet photo at the Shelby Corn Maze, where I am on site for family and children mini sessions October 19th and 26th.

Every pet-parent should have a beautiful photograph of their best friend. I’m happy to do this to celebrate the friend I had in Griffin.

This is how it works.  If possible, please e-mail beforehand and let me know w and let me know what time to meet you at the Shelby Corn Maze. Otherwise you will find me at the Full Bloom table. The photos will only take a few minutes. I will send you one free digital file, and a link to a gallery of about 5 photos. You can purchase affordable prints or high quality files from your gallery.

Salty and Blue

I am unpacking my old cameras, ordering darkroom chemistry and learning how to print digital negatives. In a few months I’ll be offering original fine art prints and portraits.  It’s  really exciting, and I can’t wait to get to work!  Below is a dogwood blossom from my front yard. I’m going to be using this photo to practice a few alternative processes including cyanotypes and salt prints.

Spring Forward

Nearly 200 seedlings are sitting in the greenhouse, 2000 worms are adjusting to their new habitat, the soil for our garden is being turned over, and at 2:00am we all were launched an hour into the future.

FBC is closing up shop for a few weeks, and will reopen with a new name, more focused services, an updated portfolio, and all of the other things I should have done a year ago.  There have been many factors to consider in making this decision.  The greatest being my new location. I need to reposition my work to be successful in this area, and in the process I am evaluating my style, workflow management, and everything in between.

I can already tell you awesome things are going to happen.  Perhaps it is the change of season, or being fueled by conversation with a fellow photographer, but I am finding the energy to invest in my work.  When I debut the transition I hope you will all celebrate with me.

Happy almost-spring, everyone. I’ll see you soon.
